Christmas came early this year The lights, good cheer And your love You came as a gift All shiny and new But now it's December, And no you No one here but me The cat, the car and the Christmas tree Angels up on high Can't you hear me cryin I need a guiding light I need you tonight Christmas came early and went The cards all sent With your name A photo so sweet Same sweaters on I should have known Something was wrong No one here but me The cat, that sweater and the Christmas tree Angels up on high Can't you hear me cryin I need a guiding light I need you tonight Christmas came early, but now No hymns, no sound... You took all the good CDs And the holiday LPs You left the crappy mixtapes, Take them please No one here but me The cat, your mixes and the Christmas tree Angels up on high Can't you hear me cryin I need a guiding light I need you tonight Christmas came early this year The hangover, the beer And regret It's the last and first night On this midnight clear Come all ye faithful, It's a brand new year Come here with me Gather round the Christmas tree Angels up on high I looked to the sky I found the east star light On this silent night O holy night I'm not alone tonight...

about

Minneapolis-based musicians Mother Banjo & Ben Cook-Feltz release their new holiday EP Christmas Came Early. The first formal duo project from the married songwriters, it was produced by Ben Cook-Feltz and recorded by Bob Burns of the Flamin' Oh's. The special collaboration features guest performances by their bandmates and friends, including Dan Gaarder (electric guitar), Andy Schuster (electric bass), Cole Mickelson (acoustic guitar), Eric Paulson (upright bass), Joe Olsen (drums), Sarah Morris (vocals) and Norah Rendell (Irish whistle). Ranging from rocking Americana tunes to haunting carols, the EP features lesser known holiday songs, including the African American spiritual "Go Where I Send Thee," the Mother Banjo original "Christmas Came Early" and a vibey treatment of traditional Irish tune "The Wexford Carol."
